Good morning from the northwest end of Augusta, Maine where it is starting out to be a beautiful day. It is drying out from Ireen's visit and as of this morning, the nearly 300,000 households that had been out of power has been reduced to about 44,000 statewide. Right now we have full sun and: a relative humidity of 82% It is 66.3º f. a wind velocity that is gusting up to 3.3 MPH out of the west southwest. And our Barometric pressure is 30.11 and rising. It is a wonderful day here in the cornfield and we're glad to have the power remain on. Remember, whatever didn't work when Ireenn came to visit you needs to be fixed quickly. There are two other storms out there as I write this morning. We may not know where they are going to land, or if they are even going to make landfall. Good morning from the slowly recovering northwest end of Augusta , Maine . Hurricane Ireen was much kinder to our region than she was to other parts of our state. We certainly did not receive the weather that states to our south did. Our location was out of power from 5 pm on Sunday through most of the day on Monday. At one point the press reported that over half of Maine's power was down. The majority of our damage is a result of flooding. Here in Augusta , the Kenebec river remains 21 feet above normal. The relative humidity is 80% It is 63º f. Wind velocity is up to 1.3 MPH out of the east southeast, today's maximum gust was 2 mph. Barometric pressure is 30.01 and rising. The lowest reading during Ireen that we recorded here at the cornfield was 29.15 and dropping. Compared to many, many other communities, Augusta got off extremely lucky. Good afternoon from the very soggy and wet northwest end of Augusta , Maine . So far, the power remains on with only spiratic loss of satellite signals. Cell phone services remains intact as does the regular land line telephone service. None of it is going to last folks, so I hope you are prepared. It is raining steadily now (just over 2 inches since midnight) , but thus far, not in a drenching, horizontal manner. The relative humidity is 97% It is 71.6º f. Wind velocity is up to 5.4 MPH out of the east, northeast, today's maximum gust was 19.2 mph. Good morning from the northwest end of Augusta , Maine . If you haven't had your morning coffee yet, you probably ought to get it while the power is still on. If you don't have something you want by now, you aren't going to get it, so stay home. Here in Augusta , it started raining about midnight and we've had just over an inch so far this morning. The relative humidity is 95% It is 67.3 f. Wind velocity is up to 4.9 MPH out of the Northeast. Ireen is still scheduled to arrive in our area around 2 this afternoon. Remember what "not to do" during a hurricane or tropical storm. We are located in the Northwest quarter of Augusta, Maine in a 222 year old house, surrounded on two sides by a corn field. Hurricane Ireen is expected here tomorrow around 2 in the afternoon. Today, so far our barometer reads 29.81 and holding steady for the past six hours. That is down slightly for the day. Wind gusts have hit as high as 4.0 mph for the day, with a max of 23.3 mph for the entire week. Right now, the wind in the corn field is a snappy 0.9 mph - yes, less than 1 mph. The dewpoint is 64.9 f  the temp is 73.3 f. Today's maximum temperature was 81.3 f It is presently very cloudy, with the day beginning with a heavy fog. All day it was hot, muggy  and very still with seagulls in the Augusta area beginning to mass  on the ground in local, sheltered areas.
