#MEwx Flood Watch now in effect
Flood Watch
National Weather Service Gray ME
2:51 PM EST Tue Feb 27 2024
Rain on snow will cause stream rises Wednesday into Thursday. Warm temperatures with widespread rain will cause the already ripened snowpack to melt rapidly. Small stream, urban, and ice jam flooding
will be possible.
FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain, snowmelt, and isolated ice jams
are possible.
* WHERE...Portions of Maine, including the following areas,
Androscoggin, Central Somerset, Coastal Waldo, Interior Cumberland
Highlands, Interior Waldo, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Northern
Franklin, Northern Oxford, Sagadahoc, Southern Franklin, Southern
Oxford and Southern Somerset and northern New Hampshire, including
the following areas, Northern Carroll, Northern Grafton and
Southern Coos.
* WHEN...From late tonight through late Wednesday night.
* IMPACTS...The combined runoff from rain and snowmelt will cause
high flows on area streams and small rivers. The increased flows
will break up ice
increasing the risk of ice jam flooding. For coastal areas the
risk of urban and low lying areal flooding is likely.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Rainfall of 0.5 to 1.5 inches is expected, highest along the
Midcoast and the mountains. The addition of snowmelt in the
higher terrain could result in small stream flooding. The
larger rivers may approach bankfull, but are not expected to
flood at this time.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
You should monitor the latest forecast and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
