FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7:15 PM EDT THIS EVENING.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Portions of south central, southwest, west central, and
western Maine, including the following counties, in south central Maine, Kennebec. In southwest Maine, Androscoggin. In west central Maine, Somerset. In western Maine, Franklin and Oxford.
* WHEN...Until 7:15 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 5:15 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Waterville, Fairfield, Oakland, Rumford, Jay, Belgrade,
Livermore Falls, Dixfield, Canton, and Livermore.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.
