Special weather statement

There is a Weather Statement in effect for our area this morning: Light mixed precipitation of snow sleet and freezing rain. The rain will continue to spread from southern New Hampshire across southern and central Maine and to the mid coast during the morning hours. This may create patches of icy roads. Motorists should use caution traveling during the morning commute. Allow extra time to reach your destination. The mixed precipitation will also cause some icy spots on sidewalks and parking lots. Pedestrians should also stay alert to slippery conditions. Cold temperatures and a cold ground will allow for frozen and freezing precipitation this morning... but eventually warmer air will arrive pushing temperatures above freezing late this morning and this afternoon causing the precipitation to change over to rain.

There is a weather advisory going into effect tomorrow morning from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for high winds. Our area is slated to have winds ranging from 20 to 40 mph With higher gusts. With the rain we've had, the ground might be mushy enough to see trees going over on to power lines during the winds.   You might want to make sure that your generator has a good fuel supply, just in case.

Advisory

As of 1:15 this afternoon the outdoor temperature is 33ºF with a wind chill of 18ºF, winds are regularly gusting to around 14 mph. Although it is sunny outside, the temperatures will drop this evening and any melted snow or wet spots on the roads will freeze quickly. In the cornfield at this location we have already recorded regular gusts of 24 mph, with the 35.6 MPH wind gust with the attendant wind chill. It is overcast this morning with an 80% chance of more rain, becoming mostly sunny later today. Temps will reach from the high 50's to the low 60's. We will have winds rising to 10-15 mph. Tonight it will be cloudy, temps will be in the 30's with the wind shifting to about 10 mph. The readings outside right now are: a relative humidity of 93% with a Dew Point of 54.0ºF.
