Freezing Rain Advisory

Statement as of 2:52 PM EST on January 10, 2014

Freezing Rain Advisory in effect from midnight tonight to 1 PM

EST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in gray has issued a Freezing Rain

Advisory... which is in effect from midnight tonight to 1 PM EST

Saturday.

* Hazard types... freezing rain

* ice accumulations... up to two tenths of an inch.

* Timing... freezing drizzle will develop overnight with freezing

rain continuing through the morning hours.

* Impacts... very cold ground temperatures will cause ice to build

up roadways and surfaces. This will create very slippery

driving conditions on untreated roads.

* Temperatures... in the upper 20s.

 

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Freezing Rain Advisory means that periods of freezing rain or

freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for

slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.

 

 

Areal Flood Watch

Statement as of 3:07 PM EST on January 10, 2014

Flood Watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon through

Sunday evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of western Maine and New Hampshire... including the

following areas... in western Maine... Androscoggin... Central

Somerset... coastal Cumberland... coastal Waldo... coastal York...

   interior Cumberland... interior Waldo... interior York...

Kennebec... Knox... Lincoln... northern Franklin... northern

Oxford... Sagadahoc... southern Franklin... southern Oxford and

southern Somerset. In New Hampshire... Belknap... coastal

Rockingham... interior Rockingham... Merrimack... northern

Carroll... northern Coos... northern Grafton... southern

Carroll... southern Coos... southern Grafton... Strafford and

Sullivan.

* From Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening

* rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected along with mild

temperatures. The heaviest rainfall is likely to fall Saturday

afternoon and evening.

* The heavy rain may lead to ice jam flooding on rivers as well as

urban flooding of roads and underpasses.

 

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on

current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible

flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be

prepared to take action should flooding develop.
