Wet, rainy and under a Flood Advisory

Good Morning Augusta, There is a Flood Watch in effect from 2 PM EDT this afternoon for us through Monday evening. The National Weather Service in gray has issued a Flood Watch for portions of western Maine and New Hampshire. This advisory includes the following areas in western Maine: Androscoggin, coastal Cumberland, coastal Waldo, coastal York, interior Cumberland, interior Waldo, interior York, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, southern Franklin and southern Oxford and southern Somerset. light to moderate rainfall today will give way to heavier rainfalls overnight into tomorrow. The highest amounts will be centered along the coastal plain and foothills. Total rainfall amounts will be between 1 and 3 inches with locally higher amounts. Flooding of poor drainage and urban areas is anticipated along with potential small stream flooding. A few mainstem rivers may approach flood stage. The old adage of lightning never striking twice in the same place is totally false. Lightning is not limited to a one-bolt action. Many lightning flashes are of a multiple variety and may strike repeatedly in a few seconds. Up to 22 consecutive lightning strokes have been observed in a multiple flash.

Special Weather Statement

Good Morning Augusta. We are under another special weather statement: A high fire danger will develop in New Hampshire and western Maine today. Temperatures will warm considerably today as relative humidity values fall off during the day. Southwest winds will be on the increase today with gusts up to 20 mph or possibly up to 25 mph at times over New Hampshire and interior far western Maine. Along the coast of Maine and into eastern interior areas a sea breeze will develop with more southerly winds expected today. The unthinkable strikes the unsinkable! RMS Titanic Sinks 100 years ago today!!

Good Morning Augusta. We are under a special advisory this morning. A high fire danger will exist in New Hampshire and western Maine late this morning through the early evening hours. Relative humidity levels will drop off quickly this morning as winds increase. A relative humidity of 15 to 25 percent will prevail throughout New Hampshire and western Maine by early afternoon. West winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 20 mph. This will result in dangerous fire conditions throughout the area.
